About
In 2010 Gillian was hit by an SUV while she was walking down Spring Garden Road in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was on the sidewalk. Now, Gillian is a professional theatre artist. Let’s Try This Standing is a seventy minute show about shitting on nurses, having sex with atrophied muscles, awkward interactions with bagel eating massage therapists, and everything else that has happened since the accident.
Blending intimate storytelling, observational comedy, and imaginative design, Gillian Clark creates a communal experience with Let’s Try This Standing. It doesn’t offer easy answers, but it does give us a chance to be in a room together and be honest about how okay we are.
The show is also about being 23, feeling insecure about your body, and worrying you won’t find someone to love.
Let’s Try This Standing deals with recovery as an ongoing process.
Created and performed by Gillian Clark, Let’s Try This Standing is directed by 2b theatre company’s Anthony Black and produced by Karen Gross, with stage management and sound and projection design by Daniel Oulton.
The show has been workshopped at the PARC Colony (May 2014), at Lunchbox Theatre’s Stage One Festival (June 2014), and with Ship’s Company Theatre (October 2015).
Let’s Try This Standing was first showcased at Eastern Front Theatre’s Stages Festival in June 2015 and had its world premiere as part of Neptune Theatre’s Open Spaces Program in January 2016.
