JOAN is 16, nonbinary, and vice president of Saint Catherine High School’s Gender&Sexuality Alliance. One night they are visited by the spirit of punk-synth rock-goddess STELLA HAGGARD, who prophesizes that Joan + the GSA will form a badass punk rock band (with that cute shy drummer from Chemistry class, too).
Fueled by Stella’s triumphant dance jams and a miraculous ability to shred guitar overnight, Joan and their band “seekthenerves” begin a quest to reclaim the battle of the band’s top prize from “shitlist”, the local misogy-bro-band.
The Joan Project is a new play in development by Meghan Hubley.
